What was your first Horror RPG played?

Mine was chill. I can still rember sitting in my parents (was 16 or 17 at time0 playing a game, in which the PC were exploring a dilapidated old church, to figure out what was bringing out an army of daemons (or so they thought). On of the PC had to take a quick brake, for her nerves to calm down.
I also rember running the zombie master module, in which the PC had to go into the Bayous and kill zombies, and put a stop to the zombie monsters.
Old chill was such cheesy fun.

I loved Chill too. It was my first horror experience as well.

Hey Charles. Tried to send you an email but I don't think it made it to you.

Chill—Yes indeedy! I loved that game. I'm pretty sure I only ever played the first edition. My buddy Sidney and I discovered it, I think, at Origins '84, in Dallas. It was also the first horror RPG I ever played.

Jackson, were you with us (we were probably in junior high, maybe high school) when we played Chill in the hayloft of my parents' barn? That was great! We even had a tape recorder with Gregorian chant playing softly in the background—and candles. The candles were probably not the smartest thing to have in that dusty, dry-rot-infested hayloft. My dad would have burned us alive himself if he'd seen us.

That was a good game. I remember liking the table on the back of the book that one used to determine degree of success for everything from skill checks to attack rolls. As soon as we found Call of Cthulhu, though, we left Chill behind. Shame. I remember liking them both equally, but most of my friends had a strong preference for CoC, so that's what we played.

Didn't CoC come out before Chill? Isn't it odd that, at least so far, we all started out with Chill?

I kind of suspect that people who played horror games preferred CoC, while people who ran horror games preferred Chill. Chill was my first introduction to horror RPGs and I still go back to it occasionally for inspiration.
